Which type of materials can absorb water?

Some  materials can absorb water while some cannot. The materials that can absorb water are called "absorbent materials" . The materials that cannot absorb water are called "non-absorbent materials".

Absorbent materials:

* textile product that are made of cloth (cotton, silk, wool) such as t-shirt, sock, shirt, handkerchiefs, pyjamas, blanket, carpets, ties, jeans, ties, towels and the others
towel

pyjamas

shirt

* objects that are made of cotton for example cotton bud, coffee filters, cotton wool, face cotton, floor mop, thread and others.

* objects that are made of wood such as envelopes, toilet roll, books, tissue paper, newspaper and others. Other than that, coconut-husk and tree trunk also can absorb water.

Non-absorbent materials:

* objects that are made of metal for examples, key, nail, paper clips, tin can, coin and the other.

* objects that are made of rubber for examples tyre, eraser, rubber gloves and others.

Absorption ability are different from materials to materials.

Experiment:

1) Materials needed

2) Count how many teaspoonful of coloured water can be absorbed by each type of material.

3) Observations

Conclusion:
Different materials have a different ability to absorb water. Some materials can absorb more water than others.  A towel can absorb more water than a tissue paper and handkerchief. In our daily life, we should wore cotton clothes in hot weather because they can absorb more water than other materials cloth. Absorbent materials absorbs water and make our life more convenient and comfortable.
